Misogyny, Witchcraft, and the Malleus Maleficarum

The stereotype of the harmful female witch still exists in the present day, but where did this image come from? In this class, we'll investigate one of the most influential and misogynistic pieces of witch-hunting literature: The Malleus Maleficarum. Together we'll dive deep into this text and explore how it contributed to negative portrayal of witches, informed popular conceptions of dark magic in the west, and impacted the infamous European witch trials.
