“The devil came to me and bid me serve him.” These words of confession by Tituba helped spark the Salem Witch Trials in 1692, igniting a series of accusations, interrogations, and executions that continue to entrance people to this day. But who exactly was Tituba? Since the trials, our understanding of this figure has shape shifted many times and she remains difficult to pin down.
