The stereotype of the librarian often conjures the image of an uptight lady in a frumpy outfit with glasses on the tip of her nose ready to shush whispering children. Diving into representations of librarians in pop culture, however, reveals a wide variety of characters beyond these one-dimensional depictions. In this exploration, we touch on classic stereotypes and then turn our main focus to those that break the mold and celebrate the many ways the figure of the librarian manifests in pop culture both in the past and present.
